Our Services

The first phase of the Corporation’s development was to build a small home on a scale that fits into a neighbourhood, was wheelchair accessible, accommodating five people. As there is no private market development of this type of specialized housing, funding from the Provincial Government was needed to underwrite the construction costs and operating expenses.

Deborah’s Home was constructed in 1995 and is home to five people with physical disabilities. They separately maintain their own rooms and co-operatively share in the decisions and expenses of daily living. Residents enjoy the features of an open style kitchen and living room, while maintaining their privacy in their own bedrooms. Residents direct their personal matters and determine their level of personal and homemaking support.

Disabled BoyTenants who wish to live at Deborah’s Home must:

  • be over the age of 16
  • require a wheelchair accessible living environment
  • qualify for Rent Geared to Income housing
  • possess OHIP eligibility, and
  • require access to personal and homemaking assistance 24/7

An APPLICATION FORM and Needs Assessment must be completed.

The second phase of the organization began in 1998. The Corporation was approved to provide personal and homemaking support to adults with physical disabilities in their homes, schools or workplaces. The new funding enabled ILH to serve 12 additional people in Halton Region. This new funding is called Attendant Outreach services. On average, we provide 3 hours of service per person, 365 days a year. Our staffing scheduling model limits the number of staff members serving each consumer to a minimum.

The combination of accessible, affordable housing with in-home support and Attendant Outreach services is just part of the Corporation’s Vision to support adults with physical disabilities, with a full range of services that enable adults to fully participate in the rights and responsibilities of citizenship, including education and employment.
